Surgical instruments are typically grouped into sets for each procedure and patient, and are sterilized after use through high-pressure steam sterilization (autoclaving). Conventional adhesive labels cannot withstand repeated sterilization cycles, resulting in fading prints and label peeling. This makes barcode-based identification difficult and creates challenges in ensuring consistent traceability of instruments and trays after surgery.

An etched metal label, capable of stable readability even under high temperature and high pressure conditions, was adopted. The label is mechanically fixed to metal trays, enabling barcode management throughout the entire workflow—from surgical preparation and sterilization to reuse.
